I agree, this is a great campaign. We could help it along further and do even more than a Tobin Tax by signing up to Simpol at http://www.simpol.org. This offers a way for us to leverage our votes in a new and very powerful way to make it in the electoral survival interesets of politicians to support this and other similar campaigns.

I see you are interested in global warming and everything else that comes with it. I would just like to share my disappointment at the outcome of the Copenhagen climate council. The summit was supposed to halt temperature rise by cutting greenhouse gases. But after two weeks of negotiating it ended in a weak political accord that does not force any country to reduce emissions and has no legal standing anyway. As a result the world is “one step closer to a humanitarian crisis”, according to the Royal Society. It looks like it is every man for themselves but if your far away neighbors don’t do anything to halt it, what is the point.

Please consider that there are other initiatives beyond particular policies on health and that indeed there is a dialogue and argumentation on global social floor between UN/DESA, ILO and UNICEF. The ILO declaration on social justice makes some of the issues quite clear as well. I would be very careful in rallying with global fund as an example as it is more an afterthought and remains rather limited mechanism to address a large share of the health systems related problems that many countries face.
